Didn't pass the exam, what to do next. I failed the Unified State Exam: what to do, is it possible to enroll?

An exam, especially one as important as the Unified State Exam, is always very stressful for both the graduate and his loved ones. Sometimes it happens that the exam result is unsatisfactory, and the reasons for such failure are not necessarily explained by insufficient preparation.

There is an opportunity to retake.

In order to obtain a satisfactory result, the student must score a certain number of points in subjects that are considered mandatory for passing. Until now, there were two such subjects: Russian language and mathematics; there is every reason to believe that in the current academic year they will be supplemented by composition or, for students with disabilities, presentation.

The minimum number of points in mathematics for several years in a row was 24. But last year the exam results turned out to be much worse than in previous years, and the minimum score was lowered to 20. In the Russian language, the minimum score is 36. Let's say a major problem happened: a student failed score the minimum number of points based on the results of one exam. He will have the opportunity to retake this subject in the same year in additional time.

So, who can retake the Unified State Exam in extra time, but still in the current year?

  1. A graduate who is graduating from school this year and has already taken the Unified State Exam, but did not achieve the minimum score required for a positive result in one of the mandatory exams.
  2. A student who missed one of the required exams, but has valid reasons for which he has the appropriate documents to confirm. What reasons will be considered valid?

  3. The student’s illness, if there is a corresponding certificate from a medical institution;

    Final exams at college or technical school;

    Family circumstances, the presence of which is also evidenced by documents;

    Documented reasons of a religious nature;

    Study abroad and receive complete secondary education outside the Russian Federation.

  4. A student who was unable to complete the exam, but had a good reason for this, and can also document its existence.
  5. A graduate whose examination results were canceled by the state examination commission in accordance with the provisions of the legislation of the Russian Federation.

In order for these categories of students to be allowed to take the exam in additional time, but still in the current year, they must submit an application to the local education authority as soon as possible (usually before July 5, but a more precise date must be checked with the department of education). And attach to the application documents proving a valid reason for the need to retake. Only then will the student be assigned another day to take the exam, from those indicated in the unified Unified State Exam schedule.

If you fail, you will have to come back in a year.

So, a student can retake one required exam, but only once. It also happens that the minimum scores were not scored in two compulsory subjects at once. Well, in this case, the student does not receive the right to retake the exam this year, and he will have to retake the exams only next year, along with the graduates who will graduate in a year. This student will not receive either a certificate or a certificate of passing the Unified State Exam this year. All that will be given to him now is a certificate stating that he attended school and attended a number of school subjects..

In addition to the compulsory subjects, there are also those that the student takes at his own choice. What to do if, for some reason, a student does not score the required minimum number of points in the subject that he chose (not in Russian or mathematics)? Unfortunately, the student will be able to retake this subject only next year. What will happen to the certificate in this case? He will receive a certificate of secondary education, like the rest..

Let's file an appeal

Immediately after the exam, the student can file an appeal if he believes that he did not pass the exam well enough due to violations in the procedure for conducting it. Usually the appeal is reviewed within two to three days, and then the result is sent to the school.

If the appeal is successful, the assessment will be cancelled. In this case, the student will have a chance to retake the exam on an additional day. If the outcome is favorable, the conflict commission may add no more than two points to the score. If a student does not agree with the commission’s conclusions, he can appeal to a higher level authority - the city conflict commission. There, if the decision is favorable, you can add no more than 8 points to the score, although the review period will be approximately 10 days. When filing an appeal, you need to keep in mind that it can either increase the score, leave it unchanged, or even reduce it.

Alternative options

So, we have decided on the timing of the possible transfer. What to do next? The most important thing is not to panic. A way out can always be found. For example, you can go the other way and spend the whole year preparing.

How to prepare? There are quite a lot of options: you can study on your own, you can find a tutor who prepares you specifically for passing the Unified State Exam, or you can attend special preparation courses. Today, there are a number of organizations offering fast and high-quality training.

Many universities open preparatory courses that focus on preparing for the Unified State Exam. In addition, in the process of studying there, teachers try to remove the difference between the curriculum of a high school and an institute. Preparation in a regular school does not allow you to master the material that is offered in the first year at the university. Preparatory courses successfully solve this problem.

You can avoid wasting a whole year waiting for a retake, and get secondary specialized education remotely by enrolling in a university through a college program. This alternative solution has advantages:

  1. You can enroll in college remotely without presenting USE results;
  2. during the training process you can receive two diplomas at once: first a secondary vocational education, and then a higher vocational education;
  3. After just two years of college, you can enter a university if you have good academic results.

The most complete and objective information on the Unified State Exam can be found on the Official Information Portal of the Unified State Exam http://www.ege.edu.ru, the Official Information Portal of the Main State Exam http://oge.rf/.

Passing the Unified State Exam is an important step in the life of every graduate. For some, this is a formality that allows them to obtain a document on education, and for others, it is an opportunity for successful admission to the desired university in the country. But sometimes fate makes unexpected adjustments to a person’s life. Thus, in 2017, 3.4% of all Unified State Exam participants were unable to overcome the barrier required to obtain a certificate. Many more failed to achieve the scores required to gain admission to highly ranked universities. What to do if you fail the Unified State Examination and is a second attempt possible?

Until 2017, the right to retake the Unified State Examination was granted only to persons who had not passed the minimum threshold in compulsory subjects, the passing of which determines the receipt of a certificate.

One of the important innovations of 2017 was the possibility of retaking any subject taken for the Unified State Exam. Thus, in 2018 it will be possible to get a second attempt in the Russian language, mathematics, physics, computer science, literature, chemistry, biology, geography, social studies, history or foreign languages.

It is important to take into account the following facts:

  1. You can only retake 1 exam.
  2. You can now try to retake a subject twice.
  3. You can retake one subject if there is a good reason (documentary evidence is required) or if desired (in order to increase your score, you can retake the exam next year).
  4. Graduates from previous years who took part in the preliminary or main session of the Unified State Exam 2018 and received an unsatisfactory score do not receive the right to retake it.
  5. If a graduate is not allowed to retake the exam in 2018, he can retake the Unified State Exam a year later.

Unified State Exam retake dates in 2018

In 2018, you will be able to retake one of the Unified State Exam subjects that you failed the first time twice:

  • 1 retake – in the summer on reserve days indicated in the Unified State Exam calendar;
  • 2nd retake – in September 2018.

Thus, having increased the score to the desired one on the 1st attempt, you can have time to submit documents to the university on the main wave. After 2 retakes, it is unlikely to enter on a budget. But, this is another chance for those for whom the question of obtaining an education document remains open. Although, many universities that have a shortage of applicants for budget places sometimes conduct additional admissions in the autumn months.

The validity period of the USE certificate 2018 is 4 years. This means that having passed the exam on the 3rd attempt, the graduate gets a chance to enter the desired university next year based on the exam results already in hand.

The dates for the early, main and autumn sessions of final exams in 2018 are set by ORDER of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia No. 1099 of November 10, 2017 year, the full text of which can be viewed.

Who will be eligible to retake the Unified State Exam in 2018

According to the new rules in 2018, retaking any USE subject is possible in the following cases:

  1. unsatisfactory result;
  2. failure to appear for the exam for a valid reason (documentary evidence required);
  3. incomplete test (for a good reason: poor health of the examinee, an emergency at the Unified State Examination site, etc.);
  4. cancellation of the test result (through no fault of the examinee).

A significant reason for failure to appear means: illness or planned surgery (confirmation - a doctor’s certificate), a car accident, the death of a close relative and other similar situations.

Who will not be able to retake exams in 2018

Such a chance as retaking the Unified State Exam is a great gift for all applicants in 2018. But, in some cases, graduates may be deprived of this right. The second attempt will not work if:

  1. The examinee will be removed from the audience for gross violation of the rules (cheating, using a telephone, a programmable calculator, communicating with neighbors, etc.).
  2. The exam result will be canceled due to the fault of the examinee (for example, when violations of the rules are revealed after viewing an archived video).
  3. An unsatisfactory result was obtained in two subjects at once.
  4. In the case of a graduate of previous years gaining a score below the minimum established level for the subject.
  5. In case of missing an exam without a good reason (overslept, forgot, stood in a traffic jam...)

Naturally, all the situations listed in this paragraph should be avoided. Rely on your own knowledge, and not on cheat sheets or modern technical means. Prepare well for the exam and don’t let anxiety get in the way of your dream!

What to do when transferring to 2018 is not possible

If it so happens that you are among that small percentage of graduates who were unable to successfully pass the exam in three attempts or missed one of the Unified State Examinations without good reason, do not be discouraged, much less panic. Consider the situation from the other side. Whatever happens, you have the right to try your luck next year. Moreover, in 2019 you will only have to take the exam for which the result was unsatisfactory or you are not satisfied with it.

In many European countries and the USA there is such a thing as a “gap year”, or “gap year”. Many graduates take a break before entering university.

How to use this time profitably?

  1. consider the choice of profession;
  2. prepare for exams;
  3. relax and gain strength;
  4. earn a little extra money;
  5. learn to enjoy life!

Failing an exam doesn't end your dreams, it just gives you a break. Perhaps this is a sign and you just chose the wrong direction? And if the desired profession is your destiny, then this annoying misunderstanding will not be able to block your path to success

Remember, it is by overcoming obstacles that a person strengthens his character and acquires life wisdom!

Let's look at the situation when you failed the main/additional subjects of the Unified State Exam and still want to enroll this year. Is it real?

A frequently asked question: what to do if you haven’t scored the minimum points on the Unified State Exam in your main subject?. Below we will analyze all the situations that occur when you fail the Unified State Exam in mathematics/Russian language, or in a minor subject. I'll break the article down into questions and answers.

I didn’t pass the Unified State Examination in mathematics/Russian language, what should I do?

To live on. If you want to enroll in full-time study, then you have no choice but to wait until next year. Due to the fact that the acceptance of documents for full-time study ends approximately a month before the September deadline for retaking the main subjects. A more detailed calendar is here.

That is: if you failed mathematics (basic or major), and when applying for a specialty, mathematics, for example, is not needed, then you still will not be able to submit documents. Since a certificate of secondary general education is issued only after successfully passing the Unified State Exam in 2 main subjects: mathematics and the Russian language. If you are initially aiming for a specialty that does not require mathematics, then it is better to take the basic course. Failure to pass basic mathematics is very bad.

After failing the Unified State Exam in your main subject, you can still have time to enroll in a correspondence course.

Did not pass society, physics or other additional subjects

The situation is simpler than with mathematics and Russian. Everything you risk if you don’t pass the additional exam. Subjects – impossibility of enrolling in a specialty where they are required. For example, you take additional physics and social studies courses. If you don’t pass physics, you pass social studies, you enter a specialty that requires social studies and that’s it.

Choosing a profession is one of the most important choices in life, but on the way to your dream of becoming a doctor, a military man, a director, or anyone else, there are obstacles: you need to enroll in a university. The institute does not accept everyone, but only those who are worthy, those who have passed the entrance tests, which are taken in the independent form of the unified state exam. Passing the Unified State Exam is not an easy test for just yesterday's schoolchild, and therefore even a diligent student, overexcited, can get lost and fail the exam. They nervously wait for the results to be announced, some sigh with relief, while others realize with bitter tears in their eyes that they have not crossed the threshold of the passing grade. And then the question arises: what to do if you haven’t passed the Unified State Exam?

What requirements have appeared when entering a university since 2009?

Since 2009, the procedure for admission to universities has changed dramatically: now institutes and universities are deprived of the right to independently organize entrance examinations (except for special universities, the list of which is approved by law), all applicants, without exception, are admitted on the basis of the Unified State Exam.

The Unified State Exam is a single exam that is centrally conducted throughout Russia in all general education disciplines. The student must pass the Unified State Examination in the main disciplines - Russian language and mathematics; other disciplines are taken at will, to choose from.

The Unified State Examination is the only form of final examinations in secondary school, on the basis of which a certificate is issued. If the points scored in the main subject or in two main subjects at once are below the threshold, then the exam is considered not passed and instead of a certificate the student receives a certificate stating that he attended the course of the main subjects, but, unfortunately, with such a certificate he will not be able to enter the university it is forbidden.

What do you need to be prepared for?

The procedure for conducting the Unified State Exam is fundamentally different from the procedure for conducting a traditional exam in the form of tickets, an essay or a presentation:

  • For each subject, a single day and time for delivery is established throughout the country; in each city, a single place is determined where the tests will take place;
  • The time frame for writing the Unified State Examination is limited;
  • An independent commission is present at the test, which consists of teachers, and, for example, a mathematics teacher cannot be present at the Unified State Examination in mathematics, since the purpose of the commission is exclusively administrative - to maintain order and answer organizational questions;
  • Unified State Examination tasks are developed by FIPI and sent to the regions in special envelopes, which are opened only during the exam and only to the examinees;
  • They consist of 3 parts A, B and C. Part A the easiest and consists of test tasks, in part IN To the question asked, you need to give a short answer, in part WITH You need to write a detailed answer, for example, solving a math problem. All tasks are the same. For example, the first questions of Part A in the Russian language are given on the topic of unstressed vowels;
  • Answers to all tasks are recorded on special forms that have the form prescribed by law, so they cannot be thrown out or replaced.

Who evaluates the student's knowledge?

A huge advantage of the Unified State Exam is that the student’s knowledge will be assessed most objectively: by a computer and independent experts. A student should not be afraid of an exam just because of an evil math teacher who has been lowering grades and being biased since the fifth grade. Parts A and B are sent to the regional information processing center, and the last part is sent to two independent experts, who separately evaluate the answer and assign points for the work separately.

The inspection protocol with the assigned points is again processed at the RCIO. If the scores coincide, this is the result; if they differ slightly, the arithmetic mean is calculated; if they differ, then the task is sent to a third expert for verification to eliminate the discrepancies.

The results are announced within 7-10 days, and in some regions 12 days.

When can I retake the Unified State Exam?

If a student does not score above the threshold points in basic subjects, this is not at all proof that he spent 11 years spitting at the ceiling and did not make any effort to study. Everyone knows what strict conditions are established when conducting this exam: clear time limits, a commission in which other people’s “uncles” and “aunts” sit, video cameras and tasks from which you don’t know what to expect. In such conditions, even yesterday’s good student can become overexcited and fail the Unified State Exam.

In addition, the exam may not be passed due to illness, family circumstances, if the subject began to take the exam, but force majeure occurred. For those who did not take or did not pass the Unified State Exam, retake provided. This right can be obtained if you contact the educational authorities no later than the established date, and then additional time will be assigned for those who do not pass.

But it should be borne in mind that retaking is provided only in Russian and mathematics; if an exam in another subject is failed, a certificate will be issued and the only option to retake an additional subject will be only after a year.

If you didn’t pass the additional exam for the Unified State Exam?

But it also happens that the second attempt was also unsuccessful, and it was not possible to pass the exam again. In this case, there are several options:

  1. You can wait until next year and retake the Unified State Exam. And spend this time in intensive preparation;
  2. You can enroll in other educational institutions.

Where can you go if you haven't passed the Unified State Exam?

Yes, it is impossible to enter a university with low scores in basic subjects, because this is directly contrary to the law, but there are always alternative options:

  1. You can enroll in secondary educational institutions; they do not necessarily have to take the Unified State Exam and present a certificate of complete general education, that is, admission is the same as after the ninth grade. After technical school, it is possible to enter the university immediately in the third year, although for this you need to either pass the Unified State Exam or an internal exam;
  2. You can take courses of any skill. For example, a hairdresser, seamstress, manicurist and even a designer or advertising specialist. In a short period of time, it is possible to acquire at least some skills with which you can earn a living. Moreover, after such courses it is sometimes possible to engage in quite highly paid activities. There is only one minus - for further development and career growth you still need knowledge that can only be obtained at a university;
  3. The third option is to go abroad. Another country has different rules, so to enter a university, for example, in Europe, you will not need Unified State Examination results. But even here there are pitfalls - in some countries the Russian certificate is not recognized.

An exam is always stressful and stressful. But excessive emotions only interfere with concentration and gathering all your strength together, so it’s better to get rid of them. A psychological technique that once suggested the famous Dale Carnegie helps: imagine the worst that can happen. You need to take a deep breath, exhale and understand that failing the Unified State Exam is not the worst thing in life. But even if it turns out that you failed the exam, you don’t need to give up, because now you know what to do if you fail the Unified State Exam.

Graduation from school is an exciting time in the lives of graduates and their parents. And since the introduction of the Unified State Exam in Russian schools, excitement has become much more “concentrated”, because graduating from a secondary educational institution and entering a university have turned into a single procedure that does not give time to build up.

According to experts, what leads to a fiasco in exams is not ignorance of the subject, but... But failure in the exams does not mean that the only chance is missed: the Unified State Exam can be taken again, and in some cases even twice in the current year.

Rules for retaking the Unified State Exam

The decision on the possibility of retaking is made by the chairman of the State Examination Commission (State Examination Commission). Students and graduates of previous years are allowed to retake the same academic year in the relevant academic subject at additional times.

If a student does not score points in one of the required subjects (Russian language or mathematics at a basic or specialized level), then he can do this again on the reserve days provided for by the unified exam schedule. This allows children who have scored the required points during the retake to have time to submit documents to the university. If luck does not smile on the graduate on the reserve day, then you need to come for the retake in the fall. Autumn exams will no longer allow you to enter a university or academy this year, but if you are successful, you can go to college, technical school, or get a job with a certificate.

Graduates who fail the exam in two compulsory subjects do not have the right to retake the Unified State Exam this year. They will be able to try to obtain a certificate only after a year.

If a graduate has passed mathematics at both the basic and specialized levels and has overcome the threshold for at least one of them, the exam is considered passed.

Retaking the Unified State Exam in mathematics is possible both at the basic and at the specialized level (at the choice of the examinee).

Eleventh-graders who do not score the minimum number of points in elective exams have the right to retake only the following year.

Right to take a missed exam

Graduates who did not come to the exam for a good reason and can document this, for example, by presenting a certificate from the hospital, have an additional chance to pass the Unified State Exam.

Graduates who fail the exam due to technical problems, such as lack of electricity or a lack of forms, have the same right.

If there was no good reason for missing, you will be able to try your hand only next year.

If the organizers of the Unified State Exam committed violations in the conduct of the exam, the results of all participants may be canceled - the tests will have to be repeated.

Only next year will those who were removed from the classroom due to their own fault - for example, due to the use of a telephone or other technical device that allows them to cheat - be allowed to take the exam.

Rights of past graduates

Formally, graduates of previous years have the widest opportunities when passing the Unified State Exam. They have the right to retake specialized mathematics or Russian language in the fall, even if they have a minimum score, just to improve the result. In addition, graduates of previous years can retake exams in all subjects, rewrite their final essay, or change their “profile” and write other subjects. They can also choose to take the exam in the early period or the main period.

Right to appeal

It happens that examiners make mistakes when assigning points or violate the established procedure for conducting the exam. In this case, you must submit an appeal through your school within two working days. The application will be submitted to the state control and supervision unit of the local ministry or department of education.

Statistics regularly published by regional media indicate that in recent years the number of appeals filed and granted has been steadily declining. Nevertheless, many regions report that their conflict commissions annually increase the scores of dozens of graduates based on the results of consideration of appeal applications. Often they relate to banal technical errors in calculations. In practice it looks, for example, like this. In St. Petersburg in 2017, 479 people, or 2.73% of the total number of participants, filed appeals regarding the results of the mathematics exam. Of these, about 191 appeals were granted, i.e. almost 40%.

Failure at the Unified State Exam is not a tragedy. Moreover, it can open up new ones for young people that they simply had not thought about before.
